The assistantship creates a platform for visiting students to contribute to an ongoing research project under the supervision of an NYUAD faculty member, who will serve as a mentor, collaborator, and role model. Additionally, students will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities on campus. Previous student assistantship work has been varied and included laboratory sample preparation and field experiments, experimental data analysis, collecting original data, analyzing quantitative data, writing literature reviews or research reports, and filming videos to assist with research outreach and communication.

The Producing Assistantship will assist the Producing Department at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi with planning and logistics for all The Arts Center’s events during the spring 2025 season. During each residency, the Producing Intern will work closely with producers and shadow as much of the artists' events schedule as they can and assist with problem-solving and event management. Interns will become The Arts Center ambassadors by promoting shows and events on various student portals amongst their peers. This assistantship is very flexible depending on schedule and interest, but it does require students to be based in the UAE. Students will be required to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week, which will include evenings and weekends. Weekly shifts will include consistent time slots that can be planned ahead of time and varied hours depending on The Arts Center’s events. One drawback to these is the fact that the hardware part of the development is still lagging behind, leading to the need and prominence for quantum simulators. It would hence be interesting and desirable to come up with an approach to quantum computing languages that simulate quantum processes not on a pertinent quantum computer but on a classical one. At the same time, it would be important for such an approach to be fundamental and aware of the quantum material underlying the expected hardware, leading to languages that are implementable and realistic. A promising such approach is through topological quantum computing, which is robust against nose, errors, and perturbations, leading to reliable and scalable hardware, and hence practically useful and implementable software. Future Enhancing Epidemiological Insights Through Statistical Machine Learning: Applications in the UAE Healthy Future Study The UAE Healthy Future Study (UAEHFS) is a prospective cohort study designed to identify associations between risk factors and disease outcomes among Emiratis. The study will enroll 20,000 UAE nationals, aged ≥18 years. Environmental and genetic risk factors will be characterized, and participants will be followed for future disease events. This was the first time a prospective cohort study was being planned in the UAE. Spatial inequality: how and why does economic prosperity vary across cities, regions, and countries? Regardless of the topic, the duties of the assistant will broadly be the same. The tasks will primarily be computational and be a subset of the following: 1. Data collection and cleaning. Collecting the data from the relevant sources (these will all be available online, either in public or academic databases) and cleaning the data. Cleaning and regressions will be primarily conducted in Stata. Simulations will be primarily conducted in Matlab. Throughout, the assistant will be in direct contact with me. They will be provided with instructions for the tasks, guidance on how to complete them, and regular feedback. Outside of this, they will be expected to work mostly independently and be able to apply their own problem-solving ability to make progress on the tasks.
