My Studies

One of the perks of a liberal arts education at NYU Abu Dhabi is the freedom to construct your own education. That's what makes undergraduate experiences at NYUAD as diverse as our student body.

Here, you are encouraged to explore non-traditional course paths and combine unrelated majors and minors like computer science and theater, or physics and philosophy. Liberal arts education provides boundless opportunities.

NYU Abu Dhabi offers 26 undergraduate majors across Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Science, and Social Science, and numerous multidisciplinary minors and specializations.

Arab Crossroads Studies

I really enjoy literature, especially its connection to or reflection of political movements and tendencies. 

Art and Art History

Instead of doing an art history thesis for his Capstone Project, fourth-year student Ryan Choi chose the less conventional path of curating an exhibition.

Biology

I took this class to thoroughly understand the science and applications of the field, and hope to continue my postgraduate education with a PhD in human genetics.

Bioengineering

From creating his own bioengineering curriculum to being able to declare it as a major, Mariano Alberto Utrera was steadfast in his pursuit.

Civil Engineering

I really enjoyed the TED talk style presentations — it brought out a creative side from my classmates I had not seen before.

Economics

I was able to use the skills I've learned at NYUAD during my internship with J.P.Morgan, and eventually translated it into a full time job after graduation. 

Electrical Engineering

As an electrical engineer in my final year, this course lets me apply all of my past knowledge to design and implement various control systems from scratch.

Film and New Media

I still have a long way to go but I am more aware of myself as a film student because of the class.

General Engineering

This course opened my eyes to the limitless fields I can apply my engineering degree to, offered me a pragmatic view into the innovation process, and introduced me to new global engineering challenges.

History

I chose my major by looking at what makes me happy and what I am passionate about— which is politics and history. 

Interactive Media

This class teaches me the basics of using electronic components and soldering to be able to build circuits that produce sound and light. 

Legal Studies

This course balances between theory and empirical research about the legal profession with US legal ethics rules and case law.

Literature and Creative Writing

I absolutely love classics like Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, and Dracula, but I’ve also been curious about what gives classics their status as classics.

Mathematics

Probability is very useful in many areas of computer science, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a rigorous grasp of the fundamentals.

Mechanical Engineering

My goal is to specialize in nanotechnology; specifically researching inventions that will impact the world of medicine. 

Music

As a singer-songwriter, this course was essential to me since we widely covered the different tools available to modern music production. 

Philosophy

I am curious about the concept of logic, and I also want to hone my logical thinking skills.

Physics

Taking courses that weren't directly related to my major like a jazz course in New York, or an introduction to programming course have definitely enriched my experience.
