Reem Alhosani

My mother told me that when she chose my name, there wasn’t much meaning behind it, other than how pretty it sounded. After one library room study session with a girl I didn’t know at the time, I found the meaning behind my name in Reem Albastaki.

A girl who is truly the epitome of the beauty her name connotes gave me a friendship that movies fail to recreate. She was my comfort zone in the constant changes NYUAD took us through. From experiencing a Holi celebration together in our London study away semester, to her visiting New York to see me when we were separated, we experienced everything this university had to offer together, even when we were physically apart.

The best thing this university has taught me is how deeply rewarding friendship can be, and the best thing it has given me is her. I see a reflection of our friendship all around campus in the connections we’ve all made with each other. We’ve all created a community and family that I’m so proud to always belong to!
