Principal Investigator: John Burt

Burt Marine Biology Lab conducts regionally relevant, globally impactful research on marine ecosystems using the Arabian Gulf, the world’s warmest sea, as a natural laboratory. By studying corals, reef fishes, mangroves, and seagrasses, the lab investigates how marine organisms respond and adapt to extreme temperatures, generating insights into the impacts of climate change and supporting the conservation of coastal ecosystems.

ECELCTIC Lab uses an interdisciplinary combination of laboratory experiments, field studies, modeling, molecular biology, population genetics, genomics, and epigenomics to advance our understanding of plant diversity. The lab investigates how plants and their associated symbionts—including parasites and mutualists—evolve, interact, and adapt to changing environments.

Principal Investigator: Shady Amin

Research in the Marine Microbiomics Lab is focused on studying how seawater organisms interact with each other and how these interactions influence their ecosystem, from coral health to algal blooms to bioprospecting.

The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at NYUAD has been a nexus for cutting-edge life science research in the United Arab Emirates for over a decade. With world-class facilities and resources at its disposal, the Center’s mission is to promote innovative advances in genomics and systems biology.

As part of its responsibilities at NYUAD, the Center fosters and promotes the university’s research and training missions, by allowing undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral scientists to engage in cross-disciplinary research. It further assists researchers by providing them with advanced instrumentation and computational support to facilitate high-throughput data collection, visualization, and analysis. The NYUAD CGSB operates in partnership with its sister center, NYU Biology’s CGSB in New York, as part of an open organizational framework that drives forward transformative collaborative work across the globe, supported by joint technology and service platforms.
