Jonathan Flowers
Research Assistant Professor

Flowers is an American scientist who has worked in the fields of population genetics and evolutionary biology since 1997. He joined the laboratory of Michael Purugganan as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the fall of 2007 and joined NYUAD as a Research Associate in 2012 under the direction of Purugganan. He is now a Research Assistant Professor in the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology at NYUAD and an Adjunct Professor at NYU Tandon School School of Engineering where he serves as an online instructor.
Research
Dr. Flowers research interests include addressing questions concerning the molecular basis of trait variation and the roles of natural selection, hybridization, and other processes in shaping this variation. In recent years, Dr. Flowers has worked with plant genomicists to address these and related questions in crop species. Dr. Flowers is also working to develop a database of mutation-trait associations in plants that will facilitate discoveries both in studies of the molecular basis and evolution of plant phenotypes with applications in crop improvement.
