Semester Abroad

NYUAD students come from all over the world to study together in Abu Dhabi. They then may spend up to two semesters studying abroad in NYU’s Global Network of academic centers.

Study Abroad as Part of Your Degree

As part of a fully integrated curriculum, all courses taken abroad at NYU global sites count toward obtaining an NYUAD degree. Students can progress toward graduation and their field(s) of study while also immersing themselves deeply in the study of a new language, culture, history, and host community.

Global Support System

NYUAD study away programs are coordinated by the Office of Global Education and Outreach, which supports students before, during, and after their experiences abroad to maximize local engagement, intercultural learning, promote safety and health, and help students contribute as responsible global citizens in the communities they join — wherever they are in the world.

Financial Aid

Student financial aid is fully applicable to the cost of the study abroad semesters.

Class in Focus

"Letters From Afar:" Travel Writing Abroad with Professor Charles Siebert

Led by NYUAD professor, award-winning journalist and author Charles Siebert, "Letters from Afar" is a travel writing course that encourages students to engage with the everyday people and proceedings of the places where they study abroad.

Through case observations, interviews, and a final feature-length travel story, students expand and deepen their knowledge in ways that extend beyond a typical university class.

Offered every semester since fall 2018, the course has built a beautiful archive of student stories that captures the realities and wonders of studying and living abroad.

Abdelrahman Khater, Classs of 2026

"What I love most about this course is how it gives you permission to step back from the chaos of daily life and actually notice the stories unfolding in the city where you're living. It's rare to find a class that lets you wade into the messy, tender parts of being human. Love, loss, struggle, wonder, all of it, entirely in your own voice. I think every student deserves to take a class like this before they leave."

My Global NYUAD Experience
