Research

The Burt Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi specializes in marine biology research focused on understanding how marine ecosystems and organisms respond to extreme temperatures, particularly in the Arabian Gulf. This research, conducted in collaboration with various centers at NYU Abu Dhabi, including the Water Research Center, Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences, Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES), and Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, aims to provide insights into the impacts of climate change on marine fauna worldwide and guide conservation policies and practices. Led by John A. Burt, the lab's diverse team has contributed over 130 scholarly articles, chapters, and books to advance knowledge and inform management strategies in the region.
