Jesse Boere is Associate Instructor of Music at NYU Abu Dhabi. He is best described as a songwriter and downright music lover who both creates music and fights for its rightful place in society.
Starting with singing classical music, he shifted his focus to jazz in college and received his bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from Codarts Rotterdam. In 2014 he graduated magna cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a project researching the Big Five American songwriters and their Tin Pan Alley composition style.
Jesse currently works on a songbook with 50 songs in this particular style. Jesse Boere released a record entitled Nothing Is the Same (2015) under the pseudonym Jesse Bell. A year later he co-founded the Dutch songwriting and publishing collective Sugar Sweet Music. Currently, his artistic output consists of almost exclusively commercial pop music.
Jesse has also been very active in the field of (international) cultural politics, with author's rights and music education in schools being of particular interest to him. He served as a youth advisor for the Dutch Arts Council in early 2015, presided as president of the Netherlands Student Chamber Choir from 2011-2013, led the youth movement of the European Choral Association from 2013-2015 and is currently member of the Executive Board of the International Music Council, NGO official partner of UNESCO (associate status).
