Bassel Al Musfi received his major study in English Literature from the University of Damascus in 2003; he also completed four intensive Arabic language courses over a period of four years. In the last decade, he has worked for several prominent multinational agencies in the advertising, media and publishing fields as a Senior Creative Associate/ Arabic Copywriter. Prior to joining NYUAD, Al Musfi worked for six years as Executive Editor of Shawati’ Magazine – an Arabic/ English publication (Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority).
Al Musfi joined NYUAD as an Arabic Technical Instructor in 2015 and is involved in the planning and development of NYUAD’s Arabic department. He teaches introductory workshops to all new NYUAD students of Arabic on cultural engagement involving the teaching and learning of Arabic in the UAE. He also designs and heads up the grading student immersion activities in the Arabic language program and coordinates all immersion activities in collaboration with other Arabic instructors, integrating them into Arabic course curricula, and inputting the 10 percent grade assigned to these activities.
Al Musfi’s other duties include building and maintaining a database of UAE community contacts for the program of social events, organizing and running local and regional trips for the students of Arabic, as well as assisting the program director in running the Arabic programs scheduled for the winter and summer terms.
He also assists the Arabic studies director in running Arabic events/ lecture series targeted to the Emirati community and manages the Arabic program’s online presence.
