Owen Flanagan is James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Professor of Neurobiology emeritus at Duke University. He is the author of 13 books on the nature of consciousness, the self, the relation of psychology to neuroscience, the emotions; addiction; and cross-cultural ethics. Flanagan has recently held research fellowships at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and the National Humanities Center. He has lectured on every continent, except for Antarctica, which he has nonetheless visited.
