In July 2023, Muhammad Arshad; Research Scientist, conducted a virtual workshop delivered to high school students from Repton Abu Dhabi. During this workshop, the students learned about the background of sequencing as well as the process of QC/QT to produce clean, high-quality reads for downstream analysis. Upon completion of the workshop, the students were required to provide a comprehensive overview of the concepts covered and procedures used in the NGS data analysis.
In July 2023, Khaled Ben El Khadi; Research Scientist, mentored a high school student from Al Yasmina Academy in Abu Dhabi. During this internship, the student learned several techniques such as wet laboratory skills such as fly pushing, sample collection, brain dissection, immunohistochemistry, live imaging, and confocal microscopy.

In July 2022, Ligia Cota Vieira; Research Scientist, mentored two high school students from the Abu Dhabi Indian School and the American School of Dubai. Throughout their four weeks of research internship, the students learned a range of wet laboratory skills, including fly pushing, sample collection, brain dissection, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Apart from these techniques, a theoretical account of Drosophila and Date Palm genetics.
In June 2022, Raghuvanshi Rajesh; Research Technician, supervised an incoming NYUAD undergraduate student who worked as a research intern in Claude Desplan's Neural Development lab. The student gained experience in various wet laboratory techniques throughout the four-week research internship, including fly pushing, sample collecting, brain dissection, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Theoretical talks on flow cytometry principles, single-cell transcriptomics, antibody-based tissue labeling, and Drosophila genetics were used to supplement these methods.

In June 2019, Rana El Danaf; Senior Research Scientist, mentored a year ten high school student from King’s College, Dubai, as part of his work experience program. During this internship, the student learned the significance of studying Drosophila as a model organism and its importance in neuroscience research. This work experience introduced numerous techniques that the lab uses for experiments and to generate results.
