Global PhD Student
Affiliation: NYU New York
Education: BA United Arab Emirates
Research Areas: Materials science; porous materials; water purification; environmental sustainability
Salma A. Abubakar is a PhD candidate in chemistry, working with the Trabolsi Research Group at New York University since 2019.
Her research focuses on designing and thoroughly investigating the characteristics of porous and functionalized covalent organic frameworks. The developed materials primarily aim to promote sustainability and environmental remediation. Her primary interest is to explore the structural and morphological properties of porous materials for use in innovative applications.
Abubakar graduated from the United Arab Emirates University in 2018 with a BSc in chemistry and a minor in ecological and environmental biology. She also graduated from the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program (SMSP) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in 2018. Salma was awarded the Global PhD Fellowship at New York University in 2019 and then joined the chemistry department at NYUAD. She is currently working at the Trabolsi Research Group.
