John Oliver Orpilla holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from Central Luzon State University in the Philippines. His research has focused on gene editing projects aimed at enhancing stress tolerance, disease resistance, and yield in plants. Orpilla has worked on functional studies to identify the role of specific genes in improving crop tolerance to salinity. Additionally, his early research focused on rice breeding programs aimed at developing rice varieties that can tolerate abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, and submergence.
Moving forward, Orpilla will be working on genetic diversity and identifying key genes for trait improvement of the date palm.
