Research Operations and Infrastructure

The Office of Research Operations and Infrastructure (ROI) equips NYU Abu Dhabi’s research community with world-class facilities, platforms, and services. By unifying the Core Technology Platforms and Laboratory Operations & Maintenance under one strategy, ROI plans and modernizes research infrastructure, streamlines operations, and ensures regulatory compliance and safety. Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost of Research, the office aligns resources and capabilities with institutional priorities and collaborates across the NYU Global Network to enable ambitious, interdisciplinary research.

Reza Rowshan holds the position of Associate Vice Provost for Research Support at NYU Abu Dhabi, where he leads the strategic direction of the university’s research infrastructure and support systems. He oversees long-term planning, policy development, and the stewardship of major institutional investments in research facilities, while guiding initiatives that strengthen NYUAD’s scientific mission and international reach.

Previously, Reza led the development of the Core Technology Platforms, a wide range of centralized research platforms, supporting interdisciplinary research and deploying an extensive suite of advanced scientific instruments across multiple scientific and engineering domains. He joined NYU Abu Dhabi in 2010 and has contributed to the university’s research infrastructure from its earliest stages. Prior to NYUAD, Reza held academic roles at Texas A&M University in Qatar and at the University of Miskolc in Hungary, where he earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in materials science.

His expertise includes research operations, infrastructure planning, and regulatory compliance. He has taught and conducted research in materials science, surface engineering, and digital manufacturing and has published in these fields.
