Lab Operations and Maintenance

NYU Abu Dhabi has developed world-class laboratory infrastructure to enable cutting-edge research and teaching. An essential part of this ecosystem is the Department of Laboratory Operations and Maintenance, which ensures that laboratories remain safe, efficient, and well-supported.

A team of dedicated specialists provides technical expertise, manages day-to-day operations, and delivers key services, including technical, fabrication, visualization, materials acquisitions and management, and animal care. 

Jake Edmondson is the Director of Laboratory Operations and Maintenance at NYU Abu Dhabi, where he provides comprehensive leadership for research and teaching laboratory services across the University. In this role, he leads key laboratory support functions, including technical services, chemical hygiene, and comparative research support, ensuring safe, reliable, and uninterrupted laboratory operations in support of NYUAD’s research mission.

Working closely with faculty, researchers, and institutional partners, Jake leads strategic planning for laboratory infrastructure, staffing, and service delivery, including long-term operational and budget forecasting. He oversees multidisciplinary teams that deliver critical laboratory services across the University. His responsibilities also include risk management, safety compliance, business continuity planning, and contributing to university-wide strategic initiatives related to research infrastructure.

Jake joined NYU Abu Dhabi in 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University and Texas A&M University, respectively, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Prior to joining NYUAD, he worked in MEP consulting, designing HVAC systems for hospitals and large commercial facilities. He also holds an MBA and a Master of Science in Global Supply Chain Management from Indiana University.

Jake has published award-winning technical papers in HVAC research and has received multiple ASHRAE Technical Paper Awards, including the Willis H. Carrier and Crosby Fields awards.
