Center for AI and Robotics (CAIR)

Autonomous and embodied systems led by Anthony Tzes, with Farshad Khorrami and Yann LeCun, spanning aerial robotics and control. 

Center for Behavioral Institutional Design

C-BID collaborates closely with several UAE government strategic partners, working hand in hand to address and advance key economic priorities that will contribute to the sustainable growth of the nation.

Center for Interacting Urban Networks

The NYUAD’s Center for InTeractIng urban nEtworkS (CITIES – مدن) is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to advance urban science and promote cutting-edge research that is translated into practical, real-world solutions for the benefit of society.

Computational Approaches to Modeling Language (CAMeL) Lab

CAMeL's mission is research and education in artificial intelligence, specifically focusing on natural language processing, computational linguistics, and data science. The main lab research areas are Arabic natural language processing, machine translation, text analytics, and dialogue systems.

Computational Geometry Lab

We seek to develop general algorithmic tools that allow us to solve with a larger variety of problems  and to find algorithms that can scale. 

Computational Solid Mechanics (CSM)

The CSM research is focused on advancing the mechanics theory and numerical algorithms to better predict the time-dependent, nonlinear, multiscale, and fracture behavior of manmade and natural materials; including concrete, steel, polymers, ice, rock, and biomaterials.

Cyber Security and Privacy Lab

The Communication Networks lab (ComNets) focuses on bridging the digital divide between the developed and developing regions.

Data Science and AI Lab

The Data Science and AI Lab is interested in modeling, simulating, and analyzing social phenomena using computational methods.

Embodied AI and Robotics Lab (AIR)

The Embodied AI and Robotics (AIR) Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi develops multimodal foundation models, world modeling techniques, and intelligent robotic systems to enable autonomous perception, reasoning, and interaction in dynamic real-world environments.

Human Data Interaction Lab (HuDa)

The goal of the Human Data Interaction Lab (HuDa) is to research methods at the intersection of data management, data science, and interactive systems to enable the derivation of insights from data and to support data-driven decision-making. Our approach is human-centric in that we aim to understand how humans at any level of data-literacy (which include analysts, scientists, journalists, researchers, data enthusiasts) interact with data. 

Laboratory for Advanced Bio-Photonics and Imaging (LAB-π)

Focused on the development and clinical translation of smart devices for medical imaging, diagnostics, and monitoring using novel optical technologies, which include smart laser surgery, optical coherence tomography (OCT), photoacoustics, biomedical spectroscopy, AI-assisted optical diagnostics and imaging, optical-based smart biosensors, and miniaturized optical systems.

Modern Compilers Lab

The Modern Compilers Lab explores the intersection between three areas: compilers, machine learning (ML), and high-performance computing.

Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental ScienceS (ACCESS)

The Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental ScienceS (ACCESS) is the leading research center on the climate and the environment of the Arabian peninsula and the Gulf region. It brings scientific research on local and regional climate change and environment up to speed with the rapid development of the societies and economies that dwell in the region.

Multimedia and Visual Computing Lab

NYU Multimedia and Visual Computing Lab is an intellectual hub to study and address the key challenges in multimedia and visual data processing. 

Music and Sound Cultures (MaSC)

The Music and Sound Cultures (MaSC) research laboratory is a collective of researchers focusing on the multidisciplinary study of music from the Arab World and neighboring regions through computational and humanistic methods. These researchers represent a broad spectrum of expertise, including ethnomusicology, machine learning, music composition, performance and improvisation, library science, computational modeling, and the digital humanities.

Robotics and Intelligent Systems Control Laboratory (RISC Lab)

The Robotics and Intelligent Systems Control Laboratory (RISC Lab) at NYU Abu Dhabi focuses on perception, control, and planning in primarily autonomous robots. Our vision is to realize fully capable aerial workers, delivery systems, and collaborative autonomous agents as well as focus on medical applications.

Strategically, SHORES is planned to become a global research hub, well-positioned to address the key challenges facing sustainable development in the desert environment. SHORES will achieve this by performing and executing world-class research driven by the community and local needs and working with industry and government partners to actively deploy the research products. 

Smart Materials Lab (SML)

Smart Materials Lab works at the interface of science and engineering to explore new materials for applications in the energy, water, and health sectors. At the core of our research is the design, assessment, and application of a broad range of smart materials with extraordinary properties such as capabilities for reshaping, memorizing, moving, programming, self-repairing, and healing. 

Social Machines and Robotics Lab (SMART)

The Social Machines and Robotics labs (SMART) focuses on building socially and emotionally intelligent machines and robots that are capable of interacting and communicating in a natural way with humans, expressing through their figure a high degree of social intelligence.
