The Office of Global Access and Engagement (OGAE) takes tailored approaches with community members to foster access, engagement, belonging, and equal opportunity to participate and flourish across the University community.

Faculty Engagement Liaisons

In fall 2021, the Office of Global Access and Engagement, in collaboration with the Provost’s Office, launched the Faculty Engagement Liaison initiative within each academic division, and Stern at NYUAD, to enhance access and engagement within their respective divisions and contribute to fostering these values on an institutional level.

Liaison Responsibilities

Assist the division with strategies that support the University's commitment to building and strengthening a culture of access, engagement, and belonging.
Collaborate and meet monthly with the Office of Global Access and Engagement to recommend and execute academic programming and embed strategies for equal opportunity within the divisions.
Oversee the implementation of fair and transparent academic search practices and support peer participation in search committee workshops.
Work in close partnership with the Office of the Provost and the OGAE regarding progress and challenges in relation to belonging within their divisions.
Participate in the selection committee for the Fund for Access and Innovation.
Provide periodic reviews and reports to their respective divisional dean.

Staff

Our Approach

Support staff professional development with Human Resources teams such as, Learning and Organizational Development and Human Resources Business Partners.
Develop staff capacity and skills through initiatives such as the Intercultural Development Inventory and Community Engagement Partners.
Reinforce principles of shared governance represented by an elected Staff Council Belonging Chair to ensure the staff voice is heard in all conversations around institutional policy and governance.
Raise awareness and build shared language regarding access and belonging through orientation sessions and workshops.

Community Engagement Partners

The Community Engagement Partners model at NYU Abu Dhabi builds internal capacity by ensuring that every unit and division has the tools, resources, and access needed to stay informed and responsive to evolving practices in access, engagement, belonging, and inclusion across the global higher education landscape.

Community Engagement Partner Responsibilities

Liaise with their respective unit leaders to foster belonging in their units by providing access and community-building resources.
Attend capacity-building sessions hosted by the Office of Global Access and Engagement that develop practical skills that foster inclusion.
Lead and/or support with designing programming within their units to foster belonging.
Serve as a liaison between their respective unit and the Office of Global Access and Engagement.

Initiatives

This fund provides grants to faculty, instructors, researchers, post-docs, and librarians with demonstrated need to fund research projects, programs, and events that are innovative, foster belonging, and cultivate the University’s mission of building a globally engaged community that creates measurable positive impact locally and globally. This initiative provides access and support to catalyze and encourage innovative collaborations within the community and across disciplines.

OGAE works closely with all academic divisions and administrative units across the university to provide tailored programming and workshops on a variety of topics that reflect their unique needs. These include but are not limited to:

OGAE provides opportunities to the NYUAD community members by upskilling and improving their understanding and growing in their ability to engage with difference, which is of high value in one of the most diverse higher education institutions anywhere. This includes using tools such as:
- Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
- Intercultural Conflict Styles (ICS)
- Cultural Intelligence (CQ)
OGAE curates and hosts speaker series that are relevant and resonate with the interests and diverse makeup of our community on both a regional and global level. These discussions are often followed by a series of informal dialogues, allowing for a healthy exchange or reflections and increasing a sense of inclusion and belonging on our campus. Past discussions included:
The Office of Global Access and Engagement designs and engages with opportunities for knowledge production and sharing in various forms. We host and convene conferences and symposiums on a global level, including hosting the inaugural Colorism Across Global Lines Symposium in 2023, followed by the Colorism 2.0: Insights from Psychology, Economics, and the Media in 2025. We engage in local and regional conferences and symposiums including but not limited to the Gulf Comparative Education Society Symposium and Safe and Inclusive University Campuses in the Arab Region.
In collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Research, OGAE offers professional initiatives designed for undergraduate students to advance their research skills and contribute to the growth of NYU’s global research ecosystem. These programs emphasize collaboration, access, and engagement across disciplines and campuses, fostering inclusive and innovative approaches to global scholarship.

Meet Our Tamayyuz Fellow

For the current academic year.
Al Berwaz is the bi-weekly newsletter issued by the Office of Global Access and Engagement, which captures and promotes programs and initiatives available for NYUAD community members. Past issues can be found on the faculty and staff intranet and student portal (accessible only by NYUAD community members).
OGAE hosts a semesterly book giveaway to foster a culture of reading and increase engagement with the values of access, belonging, and engagement. This allows a wider opportunity for access to materials and resources and caters to different interaction and learning styles. The goal of this initiative is threefold:
1. Foster and increase engagement with the scope and content of the Office’s work.
2. Promote a culture of critical thinking.
3. Support diverse voices by featuring authors from various backgrounds and experiences to broaden perspective.
