Year in Review: Community Life

Commencement

It's remarkable how much can happen in the span of a year! At NYU Abu Dhabi, we're ending the decade on a high note with a new vice chancellor, a growing student body, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Here are just a few of our favorite moments from 2019.

1. Class of 2019 Graduates

We celebrated our largest class to graduate to-date. The Class of 2019 is our sixth graduating class with some 275 students from more than 75 countries.

2. Welcoming the Class of 2023

NYUAD’s Class of 2023 was selected from over 14,000 applicants around the world. Nearly 430 students from 81 countries, speaking 65 languages, joined us this academic year.

3. New Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi

In 2019, NYUAD welcomed Vice Chancellor Mariët Westermann.

4. Got Nurdles?

The community got together and did a beach cleanup collecting nearly 24,000 nurdles. Nurdles are tiny plastic pellets used in the manufacturing of plastic products. They often end up in the ocean due to spills and mishandling during transport, causing harm to marine life.

5. Ride for Zayed

In this year's Ride for Zayed cycling event, riders led by Emirati triathlete Faris Al Zaabi aimed to complete 101 kilometers at Hudayriat Island. The event was created in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE.
