Beethoven and Beyond: Attacca Quartet in Concert

Works from Beethoven and NYU Abu Dhabi composition students and faculty, are performed by the critically-acclaimed quartet

Press Release

The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), Chamber Music Abu Dhabi, and The NYU Abu Dhabi Music Program are delighted to welcome the “exuberant, funky, and exactingly nuanced” Attacca Quartet, to the capital on Wednesday, March 7 at 8pm.

An evening of vivid sound awaits those who attend. The Attacca Quartet, once the Juilliard Graduate Resident String Quartet and the Quartet-in-Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, will perform works from NYUAD composition students and faculty and end the evening with Beethoven’s renowned Opus 132.

Currently serving as the Ensemble-in-Residence at the School of Music at Texas State University, the Quartet has already released three albums to date with Grammy-winning Azica Records. One such album, the 2013 Fellow Traveler: the complete string quartet works of John Adams was honored with both the Arthur Foote Award from the Harvard Musical Association, and the Lotos Prize in the Arts from the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation.

The evening is presented in association with Chamber Music Abu Dhabi and the NYU Abu Dhabi Music Program.

Ahead of their performance, Jennifer Laursen from of Chamber Music Abu Dhabi, said: "This concert will be a rare opportunity for Abu Dhabi audiences to see one of today’s most exciting young string quartets in a challenging program of old and new. For chamber music aficionados such as myself, the measure of a truly great quartet is how well they play Beethoven, especially the great works Beethoven composed toward the end of his life.  Opus 132 is perhaps the greatest of all, and the Attacca are more than up to the challenge!  The performance of new works is another great challenge for string quartets, and I look forward every year to hearing the works produced by the very talented students at NYUAD.

Chamber Music Abu Dhabi is so grateful for the long-standing partnership with NYUAD that has made this event possible!”

Bill Bragin, executive artistic director at The Arts Center at NYUAD, is eager to see how the Quartet takes the NYUAD works, saying: “The Arts Center looks forward to our annual collaboration with Chamber Music Abu Dhabi, who have brought world class chamber groups to our stages. Each year, their guest artists allow audiences a chance to hear the vibrant work being composed by members of the NYU Abu Dhabi community, performed by world class ensembles like Attacca Quartet.”

The Arts Center at NYUAD is an internationally renowned performing arts center that presents distinguished professional artists from around the world alongside student, faculty, and community productions.
