NYU Abu Dhabi is a world-class research university that aims to foster quality research, scholarship, and creative activity that engages critical 21st-century challenges resulting in fundamental advances, discoveries, technological developments, and innovative solutions.

The NYUAD Research Institute offers substantial and sustained funding to support large, multi-year centers and labs that address questions of global and national (UAE) significance. It is also the organizational and administrative structure for new and existing research centers. Funding opportunities are offered to leading faculty members and researchers from across disciplines to carry out creative scholarship and high-level research on a range of complex issues with depth, scale, and longevity that otherwise would not be possible. 

As Managing Director, Sehamuddin oversees the Research Institute’s strategic vision and operations, ensuring the sustained success of its research centers and initiatives. Leader Profile

Sehamuddin Galadari is the Managing Director of the NYUAD Research Institute. His contributions as the University’s first Senior Vice Provost of Research have been pivotal in creating the robust infrastructure behind NYUAD’s reputation as a world-class research institution.

As Senior Vice Provost of Research, Sehamuddin played a central role in developing and expanding the NYUAD Research Institute into a globally recognized hub for multidisciplinary research. Under his leadership, the Institute has made significant strides, fostering high-impact scholarship that addresses complex global and regional challenges. His guidance in establishing and advancing NYUAD’s Core Technology Platforms, research labs, and High-Performance Computing facilities has positioned the university as a leader in cutting-edge innovation and collaboration. Sehamuddin has also been instrumental in mentoring faculty and researchers, helping to secure external funding, and cultivating long-term strategic partnerships that further elevate the university’s global research profile.

Sehamuddin’s academic credentials and professional achievements further exemplify his dedication to advancing science and education. He holds a PhD in biochemistry from Imperial College London, one of the world’s top research universities. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Royal Society of Chemistry. His groundbreaking research on cellular and molecular mechanisms in cancer has been widely recognized, with numerous publications in leading scientific journals. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of disease processes, particularly in the areas of apoptosis, inflammation, and cancer biology.

In addition to his administrative roles, Sehamuddin has served as a Professor of Biology at NYUAD, playing a key role in the development of the Division of Science. His mentorship of students and junior researchers has left a lasting impact, shaping the next generation of scientists and innovators. He has also been an influential figure in shaping NYUAD’s academic and research strategies, contributing to the university’s vision of becoming a global leader in higher education.

Beyond NYUAD, Sehamuddin is an elected member of the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists and serves on the advisory boards of several scientific and educational organizations. He has been a driving force in advancing research in the UAE and the wider region, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations and the integration of science into policymaking. His role as a thought leader in the scientific community has earned him recognition at national and international levels, where his expertise continues to shape the direction of research and innovation.
