New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Registered Nurse reporting to the Medical Director.
The Registered Nurse provides direct, individual patient care and education to the NYU Abu Dhabi community in accordance with established medical standards and ethics.
This role requires the incumbent to be on call on a 24-hour basis in rotation with other nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a Registered Nurse to NYUAD students, faculty, staff and their families.
Provide nursing services including: triage and assessment, treatment as directed by physician, health education and discharge instructions
Obtain and chart history of illness, vital signs, diagnostic test results (i.e. throat cultures, urinalysis, electrocardiogram, blood test, urine pregnancy test)
Treat patients following physician’s directives including administration of vaccines or oral, intramuscular, aerosolized or intravenous medications
Provide individualized health promotion counseling to students, particularly in the areas of college health; i.e. stress reduction, nutrition/fitness, development, adolescent health, sexual health, etc. (any students in distress or at risk will be referred to NYUAD Counseling Services)
Respond to emergency situations following protocol
Coordinate referrals and case management when required
Accompany student groups on field trips and other excursions in the extended region, which may include evenings and/or weekends (provide support and clinical care as necessary)
Attend continuing education programs, professional meetings, and review current journals and publications to remain up-to-date on nursing practices
Maintain professional certifications including CPR
Ensure standards of patient and clinical care at NYUAD are aligned with those at NYU Washington Square
Provide on-call services after hours in rotation with other nurses
Assist in the development of and adherence to Health Center policies and procedures to satisfy HAAD requirements and reflect the NYU culture and philosophy
Monitor inventory of supplies and pharmaceuticals including recording of controlled substances
Adhere to infection control protocols
Collaborate with external and regional health care providers to ensure optimal patient care and delivery: investigate patient care options, arrange for patient referrals, facilitate disposition and continuity of care with health insurance vendors and/or clinical providers. Resolve discrepancies and escalate concerns to appropriate NYU/NYUAD unit as necessary
Participate in quality assessment/improvement plans
Participate in other initiatives assigned by Medical Director
Required Education:
Ability to obtain Registered Nurse license from the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi
CPR certification
Required Experience:
At least five (5) years experience as a registered nurse in an ambulatory care setting required
Demonstrated proficiency with electronic medical records
Ability to work independently with little supervision or direction
Ability to work with a diverse, international population
Strong work ethic and exceptional interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to understand the wider perspective of the institution and how the Health and Wellness Center supports and fits into the broader educational mission
Ability to understand and appreciate intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological development of undergraduate students in a diverse international community committed to intellectual rigor and ethical values

Ability to travel regionally and work evenings and weekends as necessary
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience working with college-age population
Knowledge of cultural issues specific to the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East
