Committees serve a wide variety of functions at NYU Abu Dhabi and typically comprise of staff, faculty, and students.
Faculty Committees

Monitors, assesses, and periodically reviews the Core curriculum, its objectives, and its implementation. Membership includes the Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Development, the Director of the Writing Program, two undergraduate students selected by Student Government, one faculty representative from each of the four NYUAD academic divisions, and one at-large faculty member from any of the academic divisions. The committee meets on a weekly basis throughout the semester.

Advises NYU Abu Dhabi senior administration on matters related to the working and living conditions of individuals employed by suppliers that NYU Abu Dhabi and Tamkeen, our government partner, contracts with, as well as on social welfare more broadly.

The FCSC serves as the main channel between NYU Abu Dhabi's (i) Leadership, Senior Academic Administration and Administration, and (ii) Faculty. The FCSC represents the Faculty and acts on behalf of the Faculty in all faculty-related questions and concerns brought to its attention by the Faculty, Leadership, Senior Academic Administration, and Administration. Each of the four academic divisions at NYU Abu Dhabi elects its own representative to the committee, and one at-large representative is elected irrespective of division. The committee appoints one of its members to serve as chair, and one as vice-chair. The FCSC meets weekly and jointly with the Vice Chancellor and Provost every other week.

NYU Abu Dhabi Committees

A conduit for student and faculty input into the academic policies and procedures of NYU Abu Dhabi. Acting strictly as an advisory body, the committee makes recommendations to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Assistant Vice Provost, and/or the faculty as may be appropriate. Membership includes representation from the office of the Registrar, Global Education, faculty, staff, and students.

Advises the NYUAD divisional deans on Conflict of Interest (COI) management issues to build consistency and transparency in the COI management process and formally review COI matters based on university policy. In accordance with the Policy on Academic Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment, the committee meets on an ad-hoc basis, and its tasks include reviewing referrals of identified Conflict of Interest or Conflict of Commitment that have been referred by divisional deans or another source on an as-needed basis to provide input on a COI management issue.

Formal cases of alleged academic integrity violations are considered by the Academic Disciplinary Committee (ADC), a panel consisting of three faculty members and two students. The panel for each individual hearing is selected by the Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education from two Committee Pools: one for faculty and one for students. Each year the faculty will appoint two representatives from each division for inclusion in an ADC Faculty Pool. Similarly, each year student government as well as any individual member of the NYUAD community may nominate one or more students to serve as student representatives to the ADC Student Pool. The AVP will review all nominations and appoint eight of these nominated students to serve as ADC Pool members. Appointment to the Pools typically takes place in the spring semester for service for the following year. However, replacement appointments may be made at any time to fill any Pool vacancies.

Reviews and advises on the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery's exhibition programming, strategic planning, and related matters. Membership includes representation from the gallery’s executive team, faculty, and the administration. The committee meets once per semester, or on an as-needed basis.

Facilitates the creation and maintenance of a bookstore that reflects the academic community of NYU Abu Dhabi inclusive of students, faculty, staff, campus community and the greater Abu Dhabi community. The committee reviews and advises on matters of interior design, graphics, book ranges, NYUAD branded merchandise, community engagement; emphasizing the importance of creating a unique identity and welcoming environment. Membership includes a mix of the administration, staff, faculty, students and staff. The committee meets on an as needed basis.

Facilitates the logistics of the annual university Commencement exercise and comprises of representatives from the student body, faculty and staff. Although the remit of the committee remains the same the student and faculty representatives change annually. The committee meets on an as needed basis.

An advisory committee to the university leadership. The committee comprises representatives from the various constituencies i.e., faculty, staff, students (undergraduate and graduate), postdoctoral associates, researchers, and contract staff. The committee facilitates the flow of pertinent information and collaboration amongst them, and can refer matters to the respective councils and university committees accordingly. The committee meets twice a semester with the leadership and without on an as-needed basis.

The goal of the Health and Safety Committee is to ensure NYUAD establishes and maintains appropriate health and safety across the campus and complies with all Abu Dhabi Public Health Center (OSHAD) System Framework requirements.
The Committee and its Working Groups are the technical advisors and stakeholder body for all aspects of the University's health and safety program. The Committee has the authority to make recommendations about the conduct of activities within the University, to assure regulatory compliance and reasonable standards for health and safety across campus.

Discusses issues related to housing for all constituents living on campus and monitors university policy and practices affecting NYU Abu Dhabi residents. This committee oversees the housing application, move-in, and vacating processes. In more complex housing assignment cases, it presents housing assignments to the Executive Housing Committee for consideration and resolution. The committee meets on a monthly basis.

Ensures the safe, legal, and ethical use of biological materials in research and teaching. The IBC is charged with the oversight of biological research that falls under the following categories; Recombinant DNA (rDNA), Select agents, Biological toxins, Oncogenic biological material. It may also review: Human, plant, and animal pathogens assigned to Biosafety level 1 & 2 and Primate cells, tissues, organs, blood and body fluids. The committee meets as often as necessary.

Collaborates with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to ensure a safe environment for those who work with animals. All research involving vertebrate animals is reviewed and approved by the IACUC prior to activity commencement.

Ensures that NYU Abu Dhabi policy is in line with NYU policy wherever possible, and generally to support the policy development and implementation process at the university. The NYU Abu Dhabi Staff Council is a deliberative body that engages with academic, administrative, and research staff to understand their needs and concerns. It meets monthly to discuss matters of policy and procedure which affect NYU Abu Dhabi Staff, and its decisions and recommendations are recorded and forwarded to the University leadership.
