At NYU Abu Dhabi, researchers are advancing artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to help solve some of the most complex challenges facing society, from healthcare and education to communication and accessibility. As the UAE continues to invest in AI as a driver of economic growth, scientific leadership, and public-sector innovation, our work is helping shape the technologies that will define the future.
Human-Centred Innovation
Drawing on expertise in machine learning, language technologies, computer vision, robotics, and health systems, our researchers are developing solutions that are both technically sophisticated and grounded in real-world needs. Their work explores how intelligent systems can improve decision-making, enhance human capabilities, and create more inclusive and accessible technologies.
Tech with Real-World Impact
From AI-powered healthcare tools and diagnostic systems to language technologies that bridge communication barriers, NYUAD researchers are helping shape a model of artificial intelligence that is globally relevant, scientifically rigorous, and aligned with the priorities of a rapidly evolving region.
ChatSign’s in-house AI model can translate text into sign language, which is then interpreted by an AI avatar. An avatar signs the words out and translates sign language back to speech.
This process goes through a camera, and a computer vision AI model then transcribes the signs back to speech.
Scientists at NYU Abu Dhabi's Research Institute have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model that can forecast solar wind speeds up to four days in advance, significantly more accurately than current methods. The study is published in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.
In a landmark achievement for regional and global connectivity, e& UAE and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) have jointly demonstrated the first 6G Terahertz (THz) pilot in the Middle East, achieving record-breaking throughput of 145 Gbps. This pioneering trial marks a significant step in the UAE’s journey to shape the future of intelligent, immersive, and sustainable connectivity.

In the Clinical Artificial Intelligence (CAI) Lab, we are interested in supporting clinical decision-making using AI, data science, and machine learning driven tools. The tools rely on the analysis of large-scale electronic health records data or medical imaging. To ensure our solutions are feasible and clinically useful, we extensively collaborate with domain experts.
Faculty from electrical and computer engineering, psychology, and computer science from NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and NYU New York established the Center for AI and Robotics (CAIR) at NYUAD to conduct fundamental research and develop applications in AI and robotics. Its research areas include the processing and fusion of data from sensors to perceive the surroundings of the robot and intention of moving objects, path planning and navigation in unknown environments, coordination of multi-agent systems formed by groups of robots, brain-machine interfaces, autonomous decision-making, and robotic safety and resiliency.
Quantum mechanics governs materials at tiny atomic scales that are recently becoming accessible to direct manipulation. This is currently leading to a new world of high-impact applications, notably in Quantum Materials (e.g., spintronics), Quantum Information (e.g., in key sharing), Quantum Computation (e.g., for optimization or cryptography), and Quantum Machine Learning (artificial intelligence). However, the striking Quantum Advantage of Quantum Systems comes at the cost of their instability against tiny perturbations through noise and decoherence.
