Dana Ali earned her BSc degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from Khalifa University, where her research focused on exploring the relationship between mitochondrial markers and the development of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) in Emirati women, for the purpose of early detection and management in the UAE. Her work demonstrated that age and BMI, as confounding variables, together with specific mitochondrial markers, are associated with an elevated risk of developing GDM.

Currently, Ali is a part of the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, working under the supervision of Piergiorgio Percipalle to study metabolic diseases with an emphasis on cancer using functional genomics and mouse models.
