Laboratory of Experimental Cinema

Our research focuses on bridging the worlds of science and film by challenging and expanding the role of science in the current cultural discourse. Our lab is a forum for adventurous interdisciplinary collaboration where scientists and artists are actively collaborating to produce singular experimental outputs that are meant to hold equal value across disciplines rather than one discipline serving another. We draw from biological paradigms and principles as starting points for film drama and distribution strategies.

The lab has several ongoing projects:

• producing science film works: science/art installations, shorts and features
• devising and growing a new online portal, Labocine.com, a hybrid between a scientific journal and a VOD platform
• cataloguing and reframing scientific visual data as cinematic experiences
• organizing science/art festivals (Imagine Science Abu Dhabi), debates and events worldwide
