Metabolism and Disease

We investigate how nuclear architecture interfaces with cellular metabolism, with particular emphasis on chromatin associated myosin motors.

Nuclear Myosin 1c (NM1) operates at the intersection of transcription, genome integrity and mitochondrial function. Disruption of NM1 leads to impaired mitochondrial activity and metabolic reprogramming associated with metabolic diseases and tumorigenesis.

Current work extends these findings to cancer, metabolic disorders (including diabetes and obesity), hematological disease and brain development.
