Bipina Thaivalappil is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Advanced Materials and Building Efficiency Research Laboratory (AMBER Lab) at the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi. She completed her Master’s and PhD in 2025 in the Building Technology, Construction Materials, and Management (BTCM) Group within the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut. Prior to joining IIT Madras, she worked as a Senior Engineer at Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction in India.
Thaivalappil's doctoral research focused on the development of calcium sulfoaluminate-belite cement using alternative raw materials, including industrial by-products. She received the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) in 2021 from the Ministry of Education, India, to support her doctoral research at IIT Madras. She is also the recipient of the Surendra P. Shah Award on Technologies for Low-Carbon and Lean Construction (2025) and the Institute Research Award - IIT Madras (2025). Her research interests include low-carbon, durable cementitious binders and their composition–microstructure–property relationships.
