To recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is kicking off its fifth Breast Health Awareness campaign to promote breast health education. Once again, NYUAD has lit its campus dome pink in order to raise awareness of the importance of breast health.
NYUAD’s Breast Health Awareness campaign aims to spread positivity and promote awareness of the disease, encouraging the UAE community to further educate themselves on breast health, with cancer being the third leading cause of death in the UAE, and breast cancer the most prevalent type.
The NYUAD community will be clothed in pink, as students, faculty, and all community members are encouraged to wear the symbolic color as part of the WEAR PINK Wednesday initiative. The University will also be participating in the annual ADCB Pink Run, which raises awareness and shows support for the global campaign. The run takes place on Saturday, October 12, at Zayed Sports City.
The month will also see participation from NYUAD faculty and students in a series of activations, sport and community events, fitness games, community outreach, and volunteering opportunities. In order to continue dialogue about breast health, NYUAD’s Office of Community Outreach will also share stories across their social channels related to early detection, hope and bravery throughout the month of October, in remembrance and celebration of loved ones lost to the disease.
NYUAD students and faculty are conducting ground-breaking research into various aspects of cancer, including recently developing hybrid molecules that could serve as a new category of anti-cancer agents.
