Series

Transverse is an event series exploring how translation is practiced, performed, theorized, and taught. Co-created by Nathalie Handal of NYUAD’s Literature and Creative Writing Program and Jen Zoble of NYU's Minor in Translation Studies, Transverse produces local and virtual encounters with artists and scholars whose work is advancing the art and discourse of translation. We seek to traverse borders — linguistic, cultural, and disciplinary — to engage our communities across the global network.

Under the Same Sun

A very special event organized by Janet Hendrickson and Sara Cordón. This free half-day symposium brings together poets, critics, editors, and translators to explore the recent surge of independent publishers in New York focusing on Latin American literature—not only in English translation but also in the region’s original languages, with a global scope. For more information, go to the event page. Under the Same Sun is hosted by Liberal Studies and the Minor in Translation Studies, in partnership with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and with the generous support of the Liberal Studies Program Events Committee, the Instituto Cervantes in New York, the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Sundial House, and Transverse.
