New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Program Manager, Human Subjects Research reporting to Director of the Social Science Experimental Laboratory; Program Head of the Master’s of Science in Economics. 

The Program Manager will oversee the timely and effective accomplishment of human subject research, related ethical obligations and manage administrative responsibilities for the program at NYUAD. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Human subjects planning and management

  • Manage existing relationships with other universities and organizations in the local community in order to create a culture of research participation
  • Develop experimental research tools and materials on a project-specific basis given the characteristics of specific subject pools
  • Plan project-specific human subject recruitment needs for faculty in the Social Science and Science divisions
  • Cultivate new relationships with members of the local community to engage them in human subjects’ research at NYUAD
  • Manage recruitment of project-specific human subjects including the development and presentation of research projects and procedures to potential subjects
  • Lead and manage communication and outreach efforts with potential subjects including NYUAD community members, contract workers on campus, students in other universities across the UAE, and volunteer organizations in the local community
  • Manage experimental research sessions including testing programs, overseeing experimental administration, and tracking financial requirements
  • Manage requirements of research groups interested in conducting human subjects research in the UAE, providing guidance for investigators to facilitate timely access to human subjects
  • Develop and implement human subject recruitment strategies for individual research projects given the ethical, legal, administrative, and federal regulations surrounding human subjects research in the UAE
  • Manage collaboration with other NYUAD Outreach Specialists and departments to ensure coordinated recruitment activities

Human subjects research compliance

  • Manage timely preparation and submission of all relevant IRB requirements, including initial applications, amendments to existing protocols, and continuing review applications
  • Advise faculty on human subjects and research ethics compliance matters
  • Manage compliance of processes and material with all human subject research governing bodies including the IRB and the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD)
  • Review and manage changes in recruitment materials and procedures in line with regulatory changes
  • Monitor participant recruitment efforts and manage process improvement techniques in subject recruitment and database maintenance
  • Lead small group lectures on opportunities, challenges, and administrative requirements in human subject recruitment and research to relevant groups

Media, database, and event management

  • Manage content development and editing for the SSEL and participant pool webpages
  • Manage social media pages related to human subjects’ research at NYUAD
  • Manage the development and publishing of the SSEL Newsletter
  • Manage the development, revision, and publication of videos and other promotional materials for human subjects’ research at NYUAD
  • Develop subject recruitment materials for internal and external audiences
  • Manage translation of webpage, social media, and recruitment materials into commonly spoken languages in the region
  • Monitor the human subjects’ database to ensure that all volunteers are processed effectively and receive regular information about research participation opportunities
  • Manage conference planning, budgeting, logistics, administration, and reporting

Budgeting

  • Manage budget for postdoctoral researchers associated with the Social Science Experimental Laboratory (SSEL)
  • Forecast, manage, and review the SSEL budget
  • Manage and review the budget for the annual WESSI conference

Reporting

  • Manage relevant content for annual planning and budget reports
  • Develop proposals for relevant faculty and research grants
  • Maintain reports on the status of the human subjects’ database to ensure investigators are up-to-date

Managing student interns

  • Manage recruitment, training, and supervision of SSEL interns (paid and unpaid) and external volunteers (students from other universities in the UAE who assist in SSEL experiments)
  • Supervise subject recruitment, ethical requirements, and experiment testing for Capstone projects

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Required Experience: 

  • 5+ years of experience in an administrative role in experimental research
  • 1 year of experience in an administrative supervisory role in an experimental research and research ethics compliance capacity
  • Human subjects training
  • Ability to work in an international setting and build relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strong language skills to facilitate recruitment efforts (i.e., fluency in English and some knowledge of languages of regional relevance such as Arabic, Urdu, Hindu, Malayalam, Filipino, Sinhala, Tamil etc.) Previous experience with human subject research
  • Fluency with MS Office (Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.); willingness to learn new programs if needed
