Rafat Mahmood is a postdoctoral fellow in Economics. She holds a Masters and MPhil in Economics from Quaid-i-University, Islamabad, and a PhD from the University of Western Australia. Mahmood is primarily interested in topics in political economy and international security. Her PhD dissertation explores various dimensions of terrorism, analyzing the impact of US drone strikes on terrorism in one of her papers. Her current work includes an analysis of the determinants of civil conflict and war and the role of religious seminaries in terrorism. She is also a junior fellow at AALIMS and a research fellow at the Mahbub ul Haq Centre at LUMS. Prior to her current appointment, Mahmood was a researcher at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics.
