Alaa Abdelfattah completed her PhD in Economics from University of California, Davis where she specialized in Labor and Macroeconomics. Her research lies at the intersection of labor and urban economics where she studies the heterogeneous effects of public policy and aggregate economic shocks on local labor markets. In particular, she is interested in spatial inequality and factors that contribute to wage and firm dispersion across space and over time. Her most recent work evaluates the effect of employer concentration and large firms' subsidies on workers' wages and employment options. Her dissertation work was generously supported by the Institute for Humane Studies, the Russell Sage Foundation and the Washington Center for Equitable Growth.
