Dr. Lijo Francis is a Research Scientist at the Water Research Center, NYUAD. He holds two bachelor’s degrees and two master’s degrees. He secured his B.Sc., M.Sc., and B.Ed. degrees from the University of Calicut and MTech degree from the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). He completed his PhD in 2010 from the University of Genova, Italy.

Dr. Lijo Francis is the author of 10 U.S/European Patent applications and more than 90 international conference/journal research papers. He presented his research findings/outcomes in many European countries, the United States of America, UK, Canada, Australia, China, Singapore, Middle East, and Africa. His research interests are focused on the fabrication of nanostructured hollowfiber and nanofiber membranes for Advanced Water Treatment Processes. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Francis was working as a Scientist at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), Doha, Qatar. He is the recipient of the following awards.

  • 2009 – Young Scientist Award from Leeds University UK & NIT Calicut.
  • 2012- Two Seed Fund Awards from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia.
  • 2014 – Best Research Paper Award from European Desalination Society (Cyprus).
  • 2015 – Young Academics Award from European Membrane Society (Italy).
