Mitha Albalushi

Mitha Albalushi is a prominent Emirati public health expert and researcher, affiliated with the Public Health Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). She is recognized for her extensive work in epidemiology, mental health, and chronic diseases, particularly in the context of the UAE and GCC countries. 

Albalushi has a diverse academic and clinical background. She is an alumni of An alumna of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She also holds  a PhD in Public Health from the UAE University (UAEU), a Master's in Public Health (MPH) from the Institute of Public Health, UAEU, a Master's Diploma in Diabetes and Clinical Care from Malmö and Skåne Care University in Sweden. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes from Lancaster University and a Bachelor's in Health Science from Griffith University, Australia.

Albalushi joined NYUAD in 2016. Before transitioning into NYUAD as full-time research, and assistantship in intern students mentorship, she had over 16 years of clinical experience as a diabetes specialist and a senior health awareness educator in prominent hospitals like Tawam Hospital, Corniche Hospital, and Imperial College London Diabetes Centre. 

Her current role as a Research Associate at NYUAD involves significant contributions to the ongoing UAE Healthy Future Study, a major cohort study in the region. Her research interests and publications primarily focus on: 

• Epidemiology of chronic diseases
• Mental health, including depression and its sociodemographic predictors
• Gender-specific patterns in health conditions within the GCC
• Public health education and community awareness

She is a published author in high-impact medical journals including publications with Harvard University and frequently presents her research findings at international conferences such as European Public Health Conference in Helisniki, Berlin, Rome and World Public Health Conference in Brussels, Cape Town and Prague. More information on her publications can be found on her Google Scholar and ResearchGate profiles.

Albalushi is an editor for the Springer Nature and a reviewer in a peer reviewed journal of PLOS Global Public Health. She is a member in the Emirates Public Health Association and has actively participated in its activities. She is nominated member of the ASPHER Climate and Health Working Group (The Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER).
