Christopher Hanson

Research Scientist Affiliation: NYU Abu Dhabi
Education: BSc with Hon. Monash University. PhD Monash University

Research Areas: Helioseismology; Computational Methods; Solar Physics

Chris Hanson is a physicist whose main focus is imaging the interior structure of the sun. In particular, he aims to better understand the Sun's convection, inertial waves, and magnetism. He utilizes space and ground-based observations for his research and also manages the CSS's data center. He also has an interest in applying machine learning techniques to improve current helioseismic tools.

Chris previously worked with the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen as a postdoctoral researcher. He obtained his PhD in 2014 at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, with his thesis 'Solar Oscillations in Magnetic Regions.' Prior to this, he obtained his Bachelor's degree in physics and astrophysics and his Honours degree in Astrophysics at Monash University.
