Empowering Emirati Women: A Journey of Leadership, Diplomacy, and Social Impact

From NYU Abu Dhabi to the Atlantic Council: An Emirati Legal Studies student reflects on her role in shaping a better future and celebrating the achievements of Emirati women.

My path for the past two years has been a tapestry of diverse and enriching experiences, each one contributing to my personal and professional growth. But more importantly, it has put me in contact with a plethora of extraordinary Emirati women that have inspired me with their contributions to society and the world.

As Emirati women, our collective efforts are driven by a deep sense of purpose and pride. And today, the Emirati model of empowering women is impressive and has proven to be an investment in the advancement of society as a whole.

My journey began with participating in the Global Leadership Program at NYU Washington, DC, where I immersed myself in global issues and developed leadership skills. This was followed by an impactful internship at the Atlantic Council, where I gained valuable insights into international relations.

During my time as a student ambassador abroad, a highlight was moderating a session with Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ireland’s Ambassador to the US, which deepened my understanding of diplomacy and international affairs.

Prior to that I was dedicated to my role at the Emirates Council for Rural Development. There, I was involved in projects that aim to improve the quality of life in rural communities across the UAE. This role was not only fulfilling to me personally but aligned perfectly with my commitment to making a tangible difference in my beloved society.

NYU Abu Dhabi community members gathered at one of the UAE’s unique ecosystems near Jebel Ali to plant 5,000 mangrove trees in under an hour.

In addition to my work at the Emirates Council, I served as a Site Ambassador for NYU Washington, DC, where I acted as a bridge between our University and the broader community. That role involved facilitating connections and fostering mutual understanding, enriching the experience for both students and local partners.

Moreover, as an Academic Enrichment Program Ambassador at NYU Abu Dhabi, I support and advocate for my peers, promoting leadership development and student engagement through various initiatives and events.

We take pride in the efforts and excellence of Emirati women in various fields and at all levels.

On Emirati Women’s Day, we honor the profound support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak and celebrate the remarkable achievements of all Emirati women.

I am deeply thankful to NYU Abu Dhabi for the opportunities it has afforded me, allowing me to grow and contribute. Being part of a community where Emirati women shine and uplift one another fills me with pride and inspires me to keep striving toward our collective aspirations.
