Following the success of the first two editions, this year’s virtual Ride for Zayed saw over 450 registered participants from around the world complete the 49km and 102km rides that resulted in over 25,000km in total for the whole event. The free community event brought together cyclists from 46 nationalities.
The annual event was originally created to mark the birth of Sheikh Zayed 100 years ago and is now in its third iteration.
Over 100 participants finished 102km, completing one kilometer every year since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed. Twenty completed the 49km challenge, in celebration of the 49th UAE National Day, while the remainder completed the general participation ride
NYUAD Intercollegiate Athletics and External Sports Relations Manager Salma Al Busaeedi commented: “We are proud to witness the success of this virtual event with people from all around the world gathered on one platform to celebrate an active lifestyle and wellness while commemorating the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. We have seen familiar and new faces take part in this year’s ride and we look forward to welcoming them back next year for another exciting challenge to finish 103km and celebrate the UAE’s Golden Jubilee.”
