NYU Abu Dhabi’s Campus Center dome was illuminated pink throughout October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month as students, faculty and staff engaged in a successful series of activations as part of a month-long community program for the cause.
More than 300 members of the NYUAD community participated in breast health related initiatives over the course of October under the campaign slogan “Tougher than Cancer.” The initiatives and events were championed by a number of different departments across the University including Community Outreach, Fitness & Wellness, Athletics and Health and Wellness.
The seventh edition of the annual NYUAD Pink Fitness Games saw a total of 72 participants this year, who showed their support and solidarity in the fight against breast cancer by undergoing a series of fitness challenges. NYUAD also sent more than 80 volunteers and runners for the family-friendly annual ADCB Zayed Sports City Pink Run with participants taking part in 5 and 10 kilometer runs in support of the cause.
Staff from NYUAD’s Health and Wellness department also hosted a collaborative event on campus titled “Pink-tastic Self Check,” featuring a talk by Professor Leigh Graham from the Department of Social Research and Public Policy at NYUAD that informed the 50 students in attendance on the symptoms of breast cancer as well as how to conduct self-examinations.
The campus-wide campaign extended to on-site dining and school supply facilities as dining staff wore pink aprons and served healthy pink food items to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month, while Magrudy’s Bookstore went pink for the month by providing pink pins handmade by their staff, in addition to bookmarks, books and helpful information related to breast health.
