NYU Abu Dhabi Lights up Pink in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Press Release

The iconic dome of New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) campus will light up pink through October as students, faculty and staff come together to host a month long community program in support of breast cancer awareness month. Welcoming members of the UAE community to participate, events will include a high tea with medical staff and breast cancer survivors, a health and self-check day, a series of friendly sports relief games, along with joining breast cancer events in the wider community.

Commenting on the month long awareness campaign NYUAD Associate Director of Athletics and longtime breast health activist Wayne Young said “I’m excited by what we do here at NYUAD to shine such a bright “pink” light on a cause that is important to so many of us. Breast cancer doesn’t just affect women, it affects everyone in their life here and in societies and cultures around the world. It knows no racial or socio-economic boundaries so it’s important that we make as many people as possible aware of how to fight it, through education and early detection.”

Starting the program on October 6th, the Breast Cancer Awareness High Tea (NYUAD campus, A6 foyer) will bring together medical practitioners, survivors and supporters for an afternoon of in-depth discussion. Topics will include how to detect early signs of the disease, where to go and when if you have concerns, along with stories of strength and support from breast cancer survivors.

On October 9th NYUAD and the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) welcome people to visit the campus for HAAD Pink Day (NYUAD campus, C2). Representatives of HAAD will be present between 12:00 – 5:00pm offering information about breast cancer, along with ways to regularly self-check for early detection.

An evening of friendly competition on October 13th will see the NYUAD community #PinkOut between 10:00pm – 12:00am as Saadiyat After Hours presents a series of fun sport matches. Encouraging all team members and spectators to wear pink, the evening aims to show solidarity through social participation with its #tougherthancancer hashtag.

On Friday October 14th, NYUAD will be joining as volunteers and runners for the family friendly ADCB Zayed Sports City Pink Run presented by Daman’s Active Life welcomes participants, volunteers and supporters along for a 5-10 kilometer run.
