NYUAD Superhero Week Concludes with Comic-Con Visit

Samia Meziane, NYUAD Class of 2016, shares her experience where 15 NYUAD students travel to Dubai for a day at the Middle East Film and Comic Convention (MEFCC or Comic-Con).

For the finale of the University's Superhero Week, which took place earlier this month, 15 NYUAD students travelled to Dubai for a day at the Middle East Film and Comic Convention (MEFCC or Comic-Con).

Comic-Con is a place like no other. We walked alongside wizards, centaurs, and super villains. There were also opportunities to try out new video games, speak with artists, and shop for rare collectibles.

NYUAD freshman Joseph Chu said, "Comic-Con was one of those days to spend with old friends and make new ones, all in the same love for the comics and characters with which we grew up."

Those who followed the television series Breaking Bad were in for a treat. Giancarlo Esposito, better known as Gus, the show's villain, was one of the celebrity guests present. Senior Nishant Mohachandran was left star struck with his up close and personal moment with the actor. "I got Giancarlo Esposito to put me in a headlock, and also managed to acquire a rare 50-year-old X-Men comic," he said.

The conference also presented the students with an opportunity to learn about the gaming industry and to network. Freshman Batu Aytemiz spoke to a local video game designer to gain more insight into this profession. "I had some conversations that may lead to a summer internship," he said.
