NYU Abu Dhabi has announced that Fabio Piano, distinguished biologist and longtime member of the NYU community, will serve as provost. For the past two years, Piano has served as director of NYU's Center for Genomics and Systems Biology. He will continue to lead the Center as part of his provostial responsibilities.
Involved in the creation of NYUAD from its earliest days, Piano lent his vision to shaping its innovative undergraduate science curriculum and its distinctive research program. And this past January he convened a workshop in genomics and systems biology at the NYUAD Institute in Abu Dhabi, which was a milestone in the Institute's outreach to the global scientific community and the catalyst to Fabio's own passionate commitment to NYUAD.
"Fabio brings to NYU Abu Dhabi continued close connectivity with the NYU community, humane and powerful leadership, and the cultural sensitivity, internationalist perspective, and wisdom to ensure our success," said Al Bloom, vice chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi. "He is an exemplary teacher and inspired advocate of the best practices and purposes of undergraduate and graduate education."
Piano assumes his new role in June.
