New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD)’s Open Studios returns next month featuring over 60 exhibitions, installations, screenings, performances, talks, demonstrations, and works-in-progress as part of an interdisciplinary celebration of the arts.
Taking place on Monday, November 6 from 6 to 9 pm at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, the event is open to the public and will provide an opportunity for audiences to meet and interact with students and faculty from NYUAD’s Visual Arts, Interactive Media, Art History, Music, Film, Creative Writing, and Theater departments and to get a behind-the-scenes look at NYUAD’s arts studios, workshops, and labs.
Among the unique attractions are the “Walking Art” photoshoot, in which artists will collaborate with models to transform them into walking, breathing artworks: from glow-in-the-dark galaxies, to mythical creatures and moving statues, the human artworks will then be professionally photographed.
Audiences can also participate in interactive sessions, such as a tour of the Scene Shop, where they can play life-size Jenga, hurl tennis balls with a wooden catapult, and watch the CNC router, a computer controlled cutting machine that can do the work of many carpentry machines, perform air cuts. Interactive installations, software art, robots, web applications, and handmade electronics will also be on display for audience members to explore and play with.
“Open Studios is a celebration of the work and works-in-progress of our arts students and faculty. The arts have become a signature area of study at NYU Abu Dhabi and this event give us a chance to showcase our arts scholarship and share our incredible arts programs and facilities with the Abu Dhabi public,” said David Darts, associate dean of arts, NYU Abu Dhabi.
