Request from Other Libraries

Faculty, researchers, and staff may request books or items from the collections in NYU New York, or other university libraries.

• 1. Books from the NYU Abu Dhabi Library

  Faculty and staff can request whole items be held at the NYUAD Library Information Desk.
  

  Available items requested for hold at the library are typically available within 1-2 business days.
  

  • Log in to the Library Catalog for personalized request and delivery options.
  • Search for the item you need in the Catalog. Click the title of your desired item.
  • This screen will inform you of your access options, including full-text online, if available.
  • Click Request or More Info.
  • On the next screen, select NYU Abu Dhabi Library. Click Submit.
• 2. Items or portions of items from NYU's Bobst and Courant Libraries

  You can request whole items be shipped to Abu Dhabi from New York, or request article/chapter scans from items owned by Bobst or Courant libraries. Whole items typically arrive within 4 days of the request; article/chapter scans of available items typically arrive within 24 hours.
  

  • Log in to the Library Catalog for personalized request and delivery options.
  • Search for the item you need in the Library Catalog. Click the title of your desired item.
  • This screen will inform you of your access options, including full-text online, if available.
  • Click GET IT FROM OTHER NYU LIBRARIES (FASTER) for a chapter or article scan, or to have the entire item sent to Abu Dhabi.
  • On the next screen, select NYU Abu Dhabi Library as the Pickup/Delivery location and complete the relevant fields if you are requesting an article or chapter scan. Click Submit.

  Requests are available for circulating items from Bobst, Bobst Offsite, and Courant General Collections.
  

  Items not available for shipment to Abu Dhabi:

  • Items on reserve
  • Reference items
  • Non-circulating items
  • Consortium items (New School, Cooper Union, New-York Historical Society, Brooklyn Historical Society Othmer Library, Villa La Pietra Library)

  You may instead prefer to recommend a purchase by our library or request the item from a non-NYU library through EZBorrow or Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
  

• 3. Films from the Avery Fisher General Collection (faculty-only)
  • Please fill out this Inter-Library Loan Form.
  • You will receive an email confirmation of your booking within two New York business days. If you do not receive this confirmation, contact the NYUAD Access Services Department at lib-nyuad-circ@nyu.edu.
  • Abu Dhabi faculty will be granted a seven-day loan period.
• 4. Recorded music from the Avery Fisher General Collection (faculty-only)
  • Please fill out this Inter-Library Loan Form.

  • Abu Dhabi faculty will be granted a seven-day loan period.
• 5. Books not available at NYUAD or NYU Libraries via EZBorrow

  Place a request via E-ZBorrow for books that are not available in the NYUAD Library, Bobst Library, or Courant Library. This includes books that are currently checked out.

  • Log in to the Library catalog for personalized request and delivery options.
  • Search for the item you need.
  • If you do not see your desired item, or it is checked out, click the Search EZBorrow link on the right side of the screen, or search EZBorrow.
  • Click the title of your desired item.
  • Wait until the page finishes loading (this could take up to 2 minutes). When the page is finished loading, the orange circle at the top will disappear and you will see pickup location options.
  • Choose NYU Abu Dhabi Library (UAE) as your pickup location.
  • Click Request.

  Note that you cannot place requests for materials that are available in the NYUAD Library, Bobst Library, or Courant Library.

• 6. Items not owned by NYUAD or NYU New York Libraries using NYU Interlibrary Loan Request System
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service by which the library requests materials from other libraries on your behalf.
  • There is no charge for this service, although due to the high cost of delivery, judicious use is encouraged.
  • Log in to the Interlibrary Loan Request System and select the appropriate form.
  • Requests may be placed for the following:
    -A maximum of five (5) articles from any one journal title (as per copyright restrictions)
    -Books (be sure check the appropriate box for Abu Dhabi pickup)
    -Book chapters (limited to one chapter or about 10 percent of the page count per copyright)
    -Dissertations and theses
    -Microforms (note that the NYUAD Library does not have a microform reader)
    -Photocopies of journal/newspaper articles
  • Non-print materials, such as videos, sound recordings, and computer files, can be requested but are often difficult to obtain.
  • Items owned by NYU that are checked out.
  • Items in NYU's full-text e-journal collection are not available via ILL.
  • Requests take anywhere from one to four weeks, depending upon location and availability. Most interlibrary loan requests for journal articles or book chapters take four days or less from the time you submit a request until you have the item in hand. Requests for whole items (e.g., books, dissertations, etc.) typically take ten days.

• 7. Loan periods, recalls, and renewals
  • Books from the NYUAD Library will be due back at the end of the semester and are eligible for renewal.
  • DVDs from the NYUAD Library are due back in one week, and are eligible for renewal one time. If additional renewals are needed for research or teaching, please contact the library.
  • Past issues of periodicals are due back in one week. Renewals are not possible. Current issues must stay in the library.
  • CDs are due back in one week. Renewals are not possible.
  • Items borrowed from the NYU Division of Libraries are loaned to users based on the owning location's local policies. All items are subject to recall. For complete loan policies of NYU Bobst Library, please visit our Library Policies section.
  • Renewals of NYU library materials can be made by accessing your "My Library Account" in the catalog.
  • Materials on loan from non-NYU libraries are generally loaned for four weeks.
  • Renewals of materials on loan from non-NYU libraries may be requested via email to lib-ill@nyu.edu and are subject to approval by the lending library. If the label on your book states "NO RENEWALS," you cannot renew the item. Renewals MUST be requested before the due date.
  • Please return all ILL items to the Information Desk.
  • Every effort should be made to return ILL materials on time. Overdue items jeopardize NYU's ability to borrow items from other libraries. All users may be subject to overdue fines for overdue ILL materials. In addition, an individual's library privileges may be suspended until the overdue material is returned.

• 8. When will your materials arrive?

  Many variables affect how quickly you will receive your materials. In general, requests for whole books that are available and held by Bobst library or Courant library will be delivered to Abu Dhabi within seven days. Requests for books placed via EZBorrow will be available in 7-10 days. Requests for partial items (e.g., articles within print journals or chapters within books) will be delivered electronically within two days.

  Please note: Recalled, In Processing, and Interlibrary Loan books have variable delivery times.
  

  • Checked-out items: When items from Bobst or Courant library are recalled, the patron with the book has two weeks to return it to the library, at which time the Document Delivery staff in New York will scan or ship the book to Abu Dhabi. If you need the material sooner, contact an NYUAD Librarian.
  • In-processing items: Items with in-processing status may not be readily available for borrowing. However, staff will be notified of your request and every effort will be made to speed up processing.
  • ILL: Delivery times for ILL requests depend primarily on locating and borrowing the item from other libraries. Requests for books average between at least two weeks for delivery, but could take up to four weeks or longer. ILL requests will be reviewed and items may be purchased for the collection instead.
