In general, popular streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime do not grant rights for institutional or educational use. The Library cannot provide access to these services for classroom use.
Instead, the Library provides access to physical format (DVD, Blu Ray) copies of films to be shown in class under copyright exemptions. Faculty and instructors may schedule a loan to ensure the physical format is available at the time of classroom screening.
The Library also provides access to academic streaming services such as Kanopy Streaming, Alexander Street Press, and Swank Digital Campus. These resources are supported in classrooms by the Academic Technology Team (nyuad.academictech@nyu.edu).
If a specific film is required as course material and is not already part of the physical or electronic collections, please contact nyuad-acquisitions-group@nyu.edu as soon as possible. Depending on availability, film acquisition requests will take a minimum of two weeks or longer to fulfill.
Netflix provides one-time educational screenings of documentaries. These one-time screenings need to be arranged by the faculty’s department or another entity on campus because the Library’s policy is to direct funds towards development of the permanent collection.
