I chose the J-term class Pandemics in Iberian History because of my deep love for Al-Andalus and its rich cultural legacy. From its beautiful art and architecture to its music, I’ve always felt a strong connection to this part of history. Reading books like ربيع قرطبة (The Spring of Cordoba) and ثلاثية غرناطة (The Granada Trilogy) only deepened my fascination with the region and its profound impact on the world. But nothing could compare to actually being in Spain and seeing the remnants of our Islamic heritage. Walking through the halls of the Alhambra, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of its intricate details, the peaceful courtyards, and the sense of history that fills the air. It truly felt like heaven on earth. The experience was so emotional for me, being able to stand in a place I had only ever dreamed of and connect with my roots in such a personal way. It was a dream come true to witness the incredible beauty and depth of a culture I hold so dear.
