Art and Art History Program
Art History Track
Upon completion of the major in Art and Art History at NYU Abu Dhabi, all students on the Art History track are expected to have developed:
- Visual literacy, conceived as knowledge of the visual arts from a range of world cultures and forms, according to generally accepted categories of style, iconography, periodization, region, and type of material object, exemplified in a variety of individual works of art.
- The ability to examine and analyze central questions and topics in Art and Art History, including different forms of art history, art theory, art practice and aesthetics.
- The ability to synthesize practice and reflection in both academic scholarship and artistic production.
- The ability recognize and articulate a question or problem related to art that can be explicated, explored, and at least tentatively answered in an essay or paper that meets academic
standards of organization, presentation of evidence, clarityof expression and independent thought.
- Specialization in one area of art history sufficient for a Capstone project
Art Practice Track
Upon completion of the major in Art and Art History at NYU Abu Dhabi, all students on the Art Practice track are expected to have developed:
- Visual literacy, conceived as knowledge of the visual arts from a range of world cultures and forms, according to generally accepted categories of style, iconography, periodization, region, and type of material object, exemplified in a variety of individual works of art.
- The ability to examine and analyze central questions and topics in Art and Art History, including different forms of art history, art theory, art practice and aesthetics.
- Basic to intermediate skills in a range of artistic media.
- The ability to synthesize practice and reflection in both
academic scholarship and artistic production. - A specialization in one particular area of visual arts practice sufficient for the production of a Capstone project
