Mission
Aligned with NYU's Global Liberal Arts mission, the Arts and Humanities Peace Institute is dedicated to exploring the livelihoods of individuals and communities while fostering education on the critical role of peace and its enduring impact on society's future.
Our Objectives
Educational Development
- Develop interdisciplinary courses and programs on peace studies and sustainable development.
- Apply peace-building theories to provide students hands-on learning opportunities, such as internships, fieldwork, and simulations.
- Equip students with negotiation, mediation, and intercultural communication skills to address real-world challenges.
Research Excellence
- Conduct collaborative advanced research on the causes and solutions of conflicts, focusing on inequality, justice, climate-related disputes, and human rights.
- Develop a Research Fellowship Program with a focus on Peace Studies.
- Disseminate knowledge through academic publications accessible to policymakers and practitioners.
- Nurture collaboration among faculty, students, and external experts that inform innovative peace strategies.
Community Engagement
- Organize workshops, seminars, and dialogues in collaboration with external stakeholders focusing on peacebuilding efforts.

Dr. Ouided Bouchamaoui, co-laureate of the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize, recently joined NYU Abu Dhabi as a Professor of Practice in Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution in the Division of Arts and Humanities.
