The Office of External Relations and Communications at NYU Abu Dhabi develops, shapes, and oversees communications, connection, and engagement within and beyond campus, to enhance the University’s reputation and advance its mission and vision. The Office manages internal and external communications, strategic and community engagement, news and media relations, brand experience and creative, news and content development, digital communication solutions, digital engagement and marketing, internal communications, and University events. It also provides strategic communications support for all offices and departments.

Jonathan Ray leads the Office of External Relations and Communications, deepening awareness of NYU Abu Dhabi as an international exemplar for global citizenship, discovery, and creativity in the heart of a globally connected, world-class city. The Office promotes the unique culture, curiosity, and achievement of this diverse, talented, and highly motivated campus community — telling powerful stories of curiosity, innovation, and transformative contribution to society in the UAE and wider world.

Jonathan joined BBC News upon graduation, spending the first half of his career as a television journalist and program editor. He has held senior external relations roles at renowned universities including Oxford and KAUST. He joined NYU Abu Dhabi from OIST Japan, where he served as Vice President, and his professional experience spans the commercial agency, industry, government, and cultural sectors.
