Dear members of the NYUAD community,
I write with great sadness following the announcement of the death of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. On behalf of NYU Abu Dhabi, I extend heartfelt condolences to all members of His Highness’s family, to all Emirati citizens in our community and across the UAE, and to all residents who call this country home.
The UAE government has declared 40 days of official mourning, with flags at half mast. Government ministries, official entities at the federal and local levels, and the private sector will close through Monday, May 16. Therefore, all university events scheduled through Monday evening, on and off campus, must be canceled or postponed.
We will receive further official guidance on events and other activities from now and throughout the mourning period, and we will provide updates in the days ahead.
This is a very sad day for this country, and we join the UAE leadership and the entire Emirati community in mourning the loss of the great leader of the nation. May he rest in peace.
