NYUAD Net Zero Now Week begins May 1

April 27, 2023

Dear members of the NYUAD community,

I invite you all to join me on May 1 for NYU Abu Dhabi’s Net Zero Now Week — a week-long series of events organized by the Office of Sustainability and Stewardship. We will have the opportunity to imagine a net zero future and explore the many ways we can have a positive impact on our own environment and the planet.

The lineup is exciting: panels co-organized with the team behind COP28 (the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference), interactive workshops, research engagements, and community outreach opportunities. We will learn more about the importance of sustainability and climate action, and how we can make a real difference on this most urgent global issue of our time.

We are redoubling our efforts in this UAE Year of Sustainability. NYUAD will play an important role when the country hosts COP28 in November and December. We're immensely proud to serve as chair of the Universities Climate Network, working in partnership with the Office of the UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change to foster strategic collaboration and alignment among UAE universities.

We've also made our own commitment to a livable planet, dedicated to tackling climate change through our unique capacities to deliver key research, education, and community involvement. Our students are front and center as hosts of the Student Energy Summit in November and representing youth voices in the UN Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change and other organizations.

Net Zero Now Week is a great moment for all of us to deepen and show our intention to mitigate the climate crisis in all its manifestations. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together, inspire each other, and work together to create a better world for ourselves and generations to come.

I look forward to seeing you at these exciting events.

Warm regards,

Mariët
